Welcome to my Serenus Records discography and For Sale list. I've included information about every Serenus Records LP that I am aware of, and put this all together in hopes that other collectors could use it and perhaps contribute any missing information.

Serenus Corporation was owned by Paul Kapp, an established music publisher and artist representative. His brother Jack founded Decca Records, and his brother Dave started Kapp Records. Paul's son, Richard Kapp, was a noted composer.

In the 1940s, Paul Kapp started General Music Publishing with songwriter and bandleader Moe Jaffe as his partner. The firm quickly scored with songs like 'I Left My Heart In San Francisco' (Tony Bennett), 'Dominique' (The Singing Nun), and with many of Jaffe's songs. In 1950 Kapp launched Corona Records, which was best known as the label that issued the first Franki Valli record, 'My Mother's Eyes'. The beginnings of the Serenus label can be found in four 1964 albums that Kapp issued usng the General Music Publishing name: Music Heart To Heart (volumes I and II), I Like Alpine Music, and Listen To The Little French Band. All four discs featured lithographs by artist Irwin Rosenhouse on the cover, and a limited edition of 75 prints of each album's artwork were sold to teh public as collector's items. This special attention to the cover art would become a hallmark of Serenus Recorded Editions, whose albums would boast original art as well as reproductions of wood cuttings, lithographs, and engravings.

The Serenus label debuted in 1964, and existed continuously through 1984, when Paul Kapp died at the age of 76. It was located in Dobbs Ferry, New York and later in Hastings-On-Hudson, New York. The label served an important role in championing contemporary composers and musicians, many from Eastern Europe. While the quality of the product - both the performances and the vinyl pressings - occasionally received mixed reviews, Kapp has received much praise from composers for his enthusiasm and willingness to release their work. John Lessard referred to Kapp as 'a marvellous man', and George Walker had nothing but praise for Kapp's efforts on his behalf: 'Paul Kapp was a very remarkable man who published the bulk of my music because he believed in it. To him I owe an enormous amount of gratitude because without those publications, the performances of my music would be limited.'

Two of the label's early releases by John Wallowitch would become highly prized collector's items, because the covers boasted photo booth collages created by the legendary artist Andy Warhol. (Photographer Ed Wallowitch, John's brother, was a friend of Warhol.) One of the later Serenus releases, an album by Czech pop singer Karel Gott, is also a highly sought-after disc.
